MAY ROERTS SPEAKS
May Roerts, 32, was diagnosed with CAPD when she was 10 years old. Initially, May and her family were relieved that she had finally received a diagnosis. May’s mother hauled her from doctor to doctor for five years before she was diagnosed with CAPD. After finding out about her disorder, May began working with the SLP in her public school system. She received speech therapy until she graduated from high school. After graduation, May attended a Community College in her hometown. She dreamed of becoming a special education teacher so that she could make a difference to help the lives of children. May made that dream a reality when she graduated and began teaching school in 1994. Today, May has been teaching special education students for eight years, but she is much more than an educator, she is an advocate. May has been educating people about CAPD and the options available for about five years. She will be speaking in the Parker High School Auditorium at 6:30 on July 23, 2002. May will be discussing how CAPD affected her academic and personal life, her therapy program, and her striving desire for success. She will also discuss her views about the CAPD therapy options that are available today. May will not only provide us with information about the disorder, she will be giving us hope and insight about our children’s futures.

FAST FORWARD PRESENTATION
As you all know, Fast Forword is a computer software program that works to enhance the brain’s ability to process information. The developmental program uses gradual levels of games and activities to quicken neurological responses to stimuli. Children with CAPD that use the program receive therapy without acknowledging it because the activities and games are enjoyable for them. Fast Forword is becoming an increasing popular and successful program to help rehabilitate children with CAPD. Many of the members of PCC have children involved in the program and are very happy with the results. To learn more about the program, you can attend a Fast Forword presentation that will be held in the Parker High School Auditorium at 1:30 on July 24, 2002. The presentation is an informative meeting, hosted by a Fast Forword representative, for parents interested in learning more about the program. Parents of children who use the program are also expected to share their personal stories and experiences. There will be several computers set up in the Auditorium so that parents can get a first-hand look at the program. Also, there will be a free, trial lesson available for children of interested parents. A day care professional will be present in the Gymnasium to watch over children and allow them to play while the parents attend the meeting.

MONTHLY MEETING
Our monthly PCC meeting will be held at 7:00 on July 25, 2002 in Room 12 at Parker High School. In addition to regular business, we will be discussing new ideas for fund-raising activities, delegating chaperones for the amusement park field trip, and selecting a new chair for the CAPD Advocacy committee. As always, Children are welcome to attend. They will be able to go to the park to play games with a responsible supervision while parents attend the meeting. Everyone will be served pizza, cookies, and soda. We expect to have a productive meeting and a wonderful time.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY ANN
Mary Ann Aulsic turns 13 this week on Saturday, July 27, 2002. Don’t forget to call her to wish her a Happy Birthday. Mary Ann says that she is not doing anything big to celebrate her birthday this year but would like to invite everyone to come eat cake and ice cream with her. Kathy Aulsic, Mary Ann’s mother, says that anyone is welcome to stop. To celebrate Mary Ann’s birthday, you can visit her house around 5:00. Mary Ann says that she will make sure everyone has a good time. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARY ANN!

POOL PARTY
This Sunday there will be a PCC pool party held at the Parker County YMCA from 4:00-8:00. The party is just to allow children and parents to get together and have a good time. There will be swimming, volleyball, watermelon eating contests and more. Sunday is a day that everyone gets together and really appreciates what this organization is about. We are about information, advocacy, options, support, and FUN! We will definitely get our share of fun on Sunday. Parents, pack everyone in the family into the mini-van and prepare to have a blast. We hope to see everyone there. And…Don’t forget the sun block!!
